Grant eligibility and guidelines
Before applying for a grant, please review this information thoroughly.
-
Grant dollar range: $1,000 to $10,000 USD
-
WFAR reviews grants once a year. The application opens January 1st and the deadline is April 15th.
-
1. WFAR only accepts applications from not-for-profit organizations with a mission of advancing animal rights and/or promoting veganism.
2. As of the 2026 funding round, WFAR only funds organizations with an annual budget of $250,000 USD or less.
3. As of the 2026 funding round, WFAR only funds organizations led entirely by women and/or members of the global majority (non-white). If any individual in leadership identifies as a cis white man, the organization is not eligible for a WFAR grant.
If non-traditional, organizations may define their own leadership structure, but WFAR will request clarification if it appears inconsistent with this requirement.
Details and definitions:
Woman: A cisgender woman, a transgender woman, or a nonbinary person.
Global Majority: People who identify as non-white in their cultural, ethnic, or racial context.
Cis White Man: A person who identifies as both white and a cisgender man (a man whose gender identity corresponds to his sex assigned at birth).
Leadership: For the purposes of WFAR grants, “leadership” includes:
Your executive director or equivalent senior staff leader
Your board of directors. For 501(c)(3)s, the governing board. For fiscally sponsored groups, the fiscal sponsor’s board does not count, but if your organization’s decisions are made by an equivalent group, that group should be made up entirely of women and/or members of the global majority.
Staff Leadership: Those with primary authority over the organization’s strategy, budget, and direction.

WFAR is a vegan organization. We seek an end to the exploitation of animal life and center this mission in our grantmaking.
WFAR considers organizations that are fiscally sponsored.
WFAR was created to leverage our collective resources to uplift women-led animal rights and vegan organizations.
WFAR focuses on small, grassroots organizations. We prioritize organizations with small budgets that are systemically underfunded. We seek for our contributions to open doors to additional funding.
WFAR reviews the gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds of leadership and boards of directors of organizations.
WFAR reviews applications in English. Organizations are encouraged to reach out to Vegan Hacktivists or a translator to ensure that their application is understandable to WFAR members.
